About the artist

Tanisha Rascoe is a Tennessee based artist raised in Fentress County. Although she loves her Appalachian roots, she always visualized more for her future than remaining in the mountains that had become her home. At age 10, she sat down and picked up a pencil. From there began dreams of New York, city lights, canvas filled studios, sold out galleries, and rubbing elbows with the finest and weirdest that the art world had to offer.

However, at age 19, she decided she couldn't pursue those dreams she had spent the last nine years building in her head. The little stick had just popped two lines and she needed to lock down and fast. She grabbed any job she could before settling in the healthcare field and eventually gave birth to one, and then two daughters. Before she knew it, she was 28 about to hit 29. Years had gone by and she remembered the box of art supplies she had shoved into attic after attic through the years.

Unearthing the box, she discovered the mold covered paint tubes, canvas, and paper. It was like seeing all that she ever dreamed and wanted covered in neglect. Could she even start painting again? Last week she had doodled a flower. Did she even have the ability or the talent anymore? Was she going to give up again?

No. She didn't. A quick trip 45 minutes up the road and she walked out of Hobby Lobby with a full cart and a negative bank account. Day after day and night after night, she put herself to work. It wasn't long before she discovered she still had it. She could still hold a brush and bust out art!

And that is where we are now. Rushing to create the career she wanted 10 years ago, Tanisha is determined to get herself seen and get her work in front of people as possible. New York is right there! It may take her 30+ years to get there, but guess what? The 9 year old in her living room currently drawing and painting? It'll only take her a third of that time.
